Astro Selects a Second ATCi Simulsat Processing System to Help Expand DTH Full Arc Channel Capacity

Phoenix, Arizona (Sept. 16, 2009) – Antenna Technology Communications Inc., a provider of ground-based commercial satellite communications systems, today announced that it will be installing a second custom Simulsat 7 Multibeam antenna and associated equipment at Astro’s All Asia Broadcasting Center in Malaysia. ASTRO ALL ASIA NETWORKS plc (ASTRO) is Malaysia’s leading cross-media group with a significant presence in DTH (Direct-To-Home) TV services and commercial radio.

ATCi’s Simulsat 7 will be employed to receive signals from nine different satellites. With its ability to receive information from up to 35 satellites simultaneously, the Simulsat antenna has been a key component for Astro’s wide range of programming. This is the second Simulsat 7 for Astro, the largest Asian broadcaster who adopted its first Simulsat 7 in 2005 at its Cyber Jaya, Malaysia location.

“The Simulsat 7 will be used as a primary source for our most critical content aggregation applications,” said Yan Yap Ja, Prakash. Vice President, Astro. “Because of our expanding services and the great success we have had with our first Simulsat 7, it only made sense to add an additional multibeam processing system to our facility,” Prakash concluded.

“ATCi’s Simulsat 7 provided the ideal insurance solution as it addressed two of Astro’s major needs –efficient space utilization and simultaneous access to content,” explained Gary Hatch, ATCi’s CEO. “Astro required an antenna that was powerful enough to receive multiple signals anytime anywhere while spanning the satellite arc, yet occupy minimal space. This Simulsat processing system was tailor-made for the job and with Simulsat, Astro will remain flexible enough to modify and add virtually unlimited feed locations as they enhance their services,” Hatch concluded.

The new Simulsat 7 was installed in July, 2009 at Astro’s Malaysian facility.
